All Aboard!

All Aboard
There is a reason this blog is titled "Talking Papers".  Just when I think the page is complete and I have it posted and the layout is settled in on the display shelf it starts to speak if it has something to say.  All Aboard just wasn't ready to sit quietly on the shelf and look pretty.
The pocket watch asked for some glitter and a band on which to sit.  The sign is made of wood which fits the Scrap for help challenge this month.
The train wanted some authenticity.  I took some cheese clothe and gave it a paint job to make a field of coal dust for the train tracks.  A few old time cards where place here and there.  A little doodling was drawn up the sides.
I add a stick pin to the homemade flower. And behind the burlap frame I added another frame and punched it out and added some doodling to it.  I believe the page can now sit with pride on the shelf.  Whewwwww.

I have been busy this month with a house guest.  An old friend of mine was asking around for possible housing for her neighbors daughter who would be interning this summer in our area.  We offered up our house and hoped for the best.  It is interesting to have a young person in the house again.

So, I finally got around to finishing a page for Scrapping Everyday Miracles their June sketch challenge with a twist.  The twist is to make your own flower.  I have several flowers on this layout but one of them is homemade.

I had quite the fun with this layout.  On the burlap frame I use some sprays to enhance the colors.  I made my own tag and even did some fussy cutting on the pocket watch.

I turned the sketch on its side.

All Aboard

Lasting Memories challenge this week is something with wings.  I have a dragonfly just above the flowers.
We took a vacation to the Grand Canyon and rode an old steam train with the full old west feel and robbers!! They rode up to the moving train on horseback.  Boarded the train and pretended to rob us.  It was awesome.
This is a close up of the burlap flower I made with a clock center.  I felt it suited the layout theme.

Guys and dolls

This month Zeus and Zoe's challenge was to do a project about your favorite things.  One of my personal favorite things to do relates to the theater.  I have been involved with the theater in one capacity or the other since I was 12 years old.  The acting bug was passed down to my daughter, Frauke, she is the girl in the middle of the picture.  These days I love going to the theater and watching other put on productions.

The sketch design for this layout is by C'est Magnifique.
June Sketch Challenge
The main color I used in this layout, yellow, is for a challenge over at Red Carpet Studio.
However, I used many bold colors for the About a Girl bold color challenge.
As you can see I am still using up my fabulous excessive collection of G45 Bird Song papers.  I have found that they are easy to mix and match with other collections which keep my layouts from becoming overly repetitive. lol!! 8}  I simply love this color pallet.
I just love this corner piece which gives the layout a light and airy look and a touch of elegance.  Very girly I think.
And now there is a new kid in town, Scrap Stuffz .  I just found them and wanted to get their name out there to all you challenge fans.  Their first challenge is to an inspiration piece.   You can take from  it what ever you want and just create.  I think the colors in this layout fit the challenge.

The zoo crew

What a lovely way to spend a hot summer day than at the zoo.  My sister, her husband and my daughter took a trip to the Hattiesburg, Ms. zoo and enjoyed a train ride to see all the animals.

This fun layout is for a challenge over at SATW.  What better place to take pictures than a zoo.  I also liked the idea of travel and being out doors.  All the wonderful things one wants to do in summer.

I wanted this layout to give the feel of the jungle.

Joy

This was a day of joy and abundant love.  We were about to move to Dallas and leave the girls behind to complete their college educations and I wrangled them into one more photo shot.  Frauke's husband took this picture for me.  It just melts my heart each time I look at it.

I used the Frosted Designs sketch:

They also asked for something with wings.  Butterflies!

Gal Pal Vaca

It has been a long time since my gal pals have gone on a vacation together.  So when my friend emailed and asked who was game for another cruise my sister and I  jumped on the band wagon!
This picture is from our last trip.  I couldn't believe when I looked at this picture that it had been five years ago since our last trip.  Time passes so quickly.

Gal Pal Vaca
OUAS asked what is your guilty pleasure as part of their June challenge.  Mine is taking a vacation with my gal pals.  We know how to let our hair down and just have fun!

Here is my silhouette for Archi scraps.  Bugs are seem to find you in the tropics!
I decided to write on my journal card which as you can see isn't all that pretty.  lol!
I had some left over stickers from the Graphic 45 tropical paradise collection that I thought fit well in this layout.  I put this incredible hot pink cut out on top of  plain light blue paper.  I wanted the feel on coral floating in water.

I had such fun putting this layout together.  It was like taking a mini vacation.  So, thanks for stopping by and dipping your toes in the ocean with me.  Til next time, keep cool.  I would love to see you become a member of this blog!

Perfect, fun, quirky

Ahhhh, it's summer time!  The temperatures are on the rise and so is the AC!

It's the beginning of a new month which means new challenges to enjoy! And I do enjoy challenges.

Perfect, fun, quirky
Week 2 sketch on Let's Get Sketchy.
I love these fun colors and over at Archi-scraps they love color and forms.  Their twist is to use a silhouette.  Mine is the bi-plane at the bottom which also factors in their airiness appeal for this month.
My daughter took a gal pal trip to Vegas and while there they slipped into one of those photo booths for wonderful vaca pics!!  Looks like they had a great time.
Here is S.W.A.T'S color pallet which I think I nailed.  I know the pink hearts, and flowers are much stronger than theirs but hopefully they agree it works.
  •  Awwww, this month I tried something new.....washi tape!!  I think I love it!!  So easy to use and it just adds that certain somethin', somethin' that makes the page complete. I also cute a doilie which I made and used it on either end.  This was for the "About a Girl" challenge.
Thank you kindly for stopping by and seeing what the papers had to say this month.  I always enjoy your visits!  I would love it if you became a follower!
